Only 5% Fluoridated Around the World
How popular is the practice of intentional water fluoridation? The Pro Fluoride Crew makes it sound like the whole world is headed that direction, with scores upon scores of countries already entrenched. BUT that’s NOT even close to reality, as you can see in the short list of 12 countries.
Really, only 5% of the world’s population has opted for their municipal water to be fluoridated (many of them while kicking and screaming).
In the past, other countries have instituted water fluoridation but afterwards dropped the practice. Here’s a summary of information of the ONLY known countries that currently practice any type of mass water fluoridation:

I’ve been a fluoride detective like you in this area. It’s al long story, but years ago I found out the American Dental Association printed a “fact” about the number of nations with water fluoridation. They claimed a total of 60, but It turned out to be a made up number. Paul Connett and FAN spread the word. Then the British Fluoridation Society (source of the original number of 60) did their homework again (British Fluoridation Society publication “One in a Million”) and produced a more accurate count. The ADA then changed their wording of the supposed “fact” about the extent of fluoridation. I count a total of 32 nations with at least a little water fluoridation in the British Fluoridation Society’s “One in a million.” I think that number if more accurate than what you have in your table. Yes, accurate information about fluoridation does require some detective work.
Yes, I’ve read this information on the Fluoride Alert web page. However it doesn’t list all the specific countries making up that number. The British Fluoridation Society’s “One in a million” document lists 13 countries that they believe currently fluoridate their water. Wikipedia lists 12, most of which overlap with those listed in BFS’s document.
There are three countries which are not clear between these two reference sources. BFS lists both Malasia and Vietnam however it is not clear these currently fluoridate water. Hong Kong is listed in Wikipedia’s list.
It’d be great if you have substantiating information on other countries that fluoridate their water. However both sources clearly demonstrate that there is NO Global Trend, that actually MANY countries have decided to STOP adding fluoride to drinking water. Thanks for your input and I look forward to hearing anything further.
